The Bravos!
Here's what leaders and readers are saying about Mastering the Management Buckets:

SUPREMELY USEFUL. This is certainly one of the first books a Christian leader should read.  John puts the cookies on the lowest shelf.  He speaks from the perspective of 30 years as a CEO, the perspective you have as a Christian leader.  Yea God!  Yea John!  This is a very practical, supremely useful book.  It deserves a wide audience.

BOB BUFORD

Chairman of the Board

The Buford Foundation & Leadership Network

HARVARD MBA. Mastering the Management Buckets is simply the best book I have read on Christian management of nonprofit organizations.  It is a perfect balance between Biblical wisdom and a Harvard MBA.

DENNIS BAKKE

Author of the national best-selling book, Joy at Work

FRESH REMINDER. As World Vision helps transform the lives of the world’s poorest children and families in nearly 100 countries, we strive to be leaders and managers who honor God every day.  That’s not easy! Mastering the Management Buckets is a fresh reminder of the complexity of the leadership challenge—yet John’s book also delivers practical management insights for our leaders and our in-the-trenches people.

TAKE NOTES! John Pearson has written a wonderful book that is not only for those aspiring to leadership positions, but those who have been in the management ranks for years.  I not only enjoyed it, I learned a few things to boot!  So buy the book, grab a cup of coffee, put your feet up, and take notes!

Senior Vice President

KEEPER. John Pearson’s book, Mastering the Management Buckets, is both a great idea-generating tool and ready reference guide for the nonprofit manager. It’s a book I’ll definitely keep in my library.

Former President

WOKE ME UP! John Pearson has just thrown a bucket of cold water into my face…and it woke me up! After reading Mastering the Management Buckets, I was stunned to realize how lazy I had become in my own day to day leadership responsibilities. John has taken all things management and artfully organized them into a system personally honed over the past 35 years, and validates it with scripture.  This book is a baptism—a full immersion of management theory and practice—that will enable any leader, seasoned or fresh, to get the results that are not only desired, but critical for mission effectiveness.

MUST READ. From years of successful practice, John Pearson has captured, in one book, what is core to leadership and management.  Mastering the Management Buckets is a must to read and then keep as a reference book for veteran and beginner alike.

ORDERED 40 BOOKS. John has mentored our board and our senior leaders and managers with these core competencies—and we’re always challenged to a higher standard of effectiveness.  I just ordered 40 books to ensure that we’re mastering all 20 management buckets!

DESK-TOP REFERENCE. This book should become a text for every leadership/management training program.  Read it and it will become your desk-top reference on "how to bring it all together." I certainly want to promote it to my constituency.

GO-TO GUIDE. John Pearson has collected his experience, wisdom, common sense, and extensive network in his new book, Mastering the Management Buckets.  It has already become a "go to" reference guide and refresher for me, organized and filled with practical advice that I will include in all of my academic, ministry, and marketplace activities.

National Managing Partner

BLOCKING AND TACKLING. As John mentions in his book, I served 27 years as a Chamber of Commerce president—and worked with 27 different board chairs! I learned early on that it took a committed team of board members, staff and volunteers to achieve our mission.  Leadership and management can be complex—but it’s mostly about the basics: blocking and tackling. This book will bring you back to the basics. I recommend it!
GEORGE DUFF
Former President

Greater Seattle Chamber of Commerce, and Senior Adviser, Christian Management Association

MENTOR. Want to manage well?  This book is your personal Mentor.  Read it.  Use it.  Teach it.  Give it. I don't know of a management basics book that is better.  It will guide you to a new level of excellence.

SAVVY. I’ve seen John in action up close. He’s a pro, one of the smartest guys I know and the real deal. Now you too can enhance your leadership and management savvy by reading Mastering the Management Buckets.  The practical principles in each bucket jump off the pages—and you can put them to work immediately.

Chairman, Future Achievement, and author, Achieving Authentic Success

55-GAL. DRUMS. John Pearson has combined 30+ years of lessons learned from his leadership of three flagship Christian associations with highly developed organizational and creative writing skills to produce a book that is incredibly helpful to anyone at any level in nonprofit leadership. You’ll need more than buckets – you’ll need 55 gallon drums - to capture all his good ideas.

UNDER YOUR PILLOW! Mastering the Management Buckets is like a bible for managers.  We all have tools we go to again and again to get the job done and John Pearson has given us that kind of tool.  Put this book on your desk, not on your book shelf.  If you are just getting into the management business you may want to sleep with it under your pillow!  The buckets and balls arrangement of the book help you find bottom line answers for those tough management challenges right when you need them.  While the book is built on a foundation of sound management theories, each chapter (bucket) leads you into the personal action next steps required of a wise, skillful and competent leader.

WELL-THUMBED. John packs 25 years of experience into 270 pages of management insights, written in the breezy Pearsonian style that makes the material as fun to read as it is easy to absorb and apply. Although geared primarily to the nonprofit world, Management Buckets will inform and stimulate managers in any organization on the full spectrum of functions. An excellent value and terrific reference book. My copy is already well-thumbed.

ROADMAP. It takes the brains, seasoning and wiring unique to John Pearson
to capture the wide-ranging issues of organizational management...but do so in a clear, simple and compelling way. If you follow this roadmap to comprehensive and creative problem-solving, it will change much about you and your enterprise for good!  You will only know how much can be gained by adopting this as your field-tested guide to mastering good management."
RUSSEL G. ROBINSON, Esq.

RESOURCE. Mastering the Management Buckets begins and ends with the premise that management is a competency and not a logical extension of other technical skills.  Many leaders are appointed to their positions because they are good at doing something and not because they are competent in managing an organization and the people who need to achieve results.  This book provides a great reference point and resource for any one who truly desires to be a competent manager.

BETTER LEADER. Reading this book and acting on its advice will make you a better leader and manager.  I couldn’t be more clear about that!
JIM MELLADO
President
Willow Creek Association

CHECKLIST. Leadership involves juggling a lot of balls, and John Pearson has sorted 82 of those balls into 20 buckets.  Sound overwhelming?  Pearson acknowledges that no one person can master all the buckets, so he provides well-written, self-contained chapters that can easily be delegated to staff members for action.  This book is an essential checklist for leaders, ensuring that all the bases are covered.

BOSE AND BUCKETS. I just returned from a missions trip to Slovakia.  Lots of good, hard physical labor.  For my age (I was the oldest in the group by 10 years), I felt pretty good about holding up my end of the stick. I had a couple extra days so I took a side trip to Prague by train.  Let me set the picture for you.  A smooth, fast European train, going through gorgeous mountain scenery, an ice cold Diet Coke, peanuts, my Bose headphones plugged into "The World's Greatest Classical Hits"  and Mastering the Management Buckets. I thought, "Life doesn't get much better that this!!"

PRACTICAL. Since most books are sold by the Title and Cover, Mastering the Management Buckets goes way beyond its great title and attractive cover. It’s a fun and easy read that will provide the reader with a wealth of practical information that can be applied immediately to their organization. Anyone in leadership should read Mastering the Management Buckets. You won’t be disappointed.

CHOCKED FULL. I gave a "book report" on the Management Buckets book today for the UGM directors. I read the book from cover to cover, and liked it. It is a very good resource. Chocked full of good ideas, tools, and references. The directors seemed enthused by it also. We have two copies in our "leadership books" library here at the UGM, and one was checked out right after the meeting today.

COMPASS. Recently with the purchase of your book, Mastering the Management Buckets, our general manager and I are going through it purposefully, chapter by chapter, taking it apart and spending time seeing how we can look at what we doing, how we can serve our customers better and maintain a strong forging ahead momentum that hits the target of need, not the target of perceived need. So we are on an exciting journey here with the book as a compass, making sure we are headed in the "right direction."
GRAEME PARIS
Executive Director

BITE-SIZED. In Mastering the Management Buckets, John Pearson provides practical advice in an easily consumable format. It’s bite-sized and offers easy to use job aids, charts, examples and tools to process what he’s challenging us to do. This management handbook is a must read!
